Newton's law of motion,
any one of the three fundamental statements on motion formulated by Isaac Newton: a) a body at rest or moving uniformly in a straight line will remain so unless acted upon by some outside force. b) a change in the motion of a body is proportional to and in the same direction as the force that produces it. c) for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
